Thursday Thought

As I was looking back over my notes of the past couple of years, I ran across this thought that has really stuck with me lately. I think with all the turmoil in the world lately, it's easy to get caught up in worrying and being fearful about what may happen. This quote has come to my mind several times. It's from the February 2008 Worldwide Leadership Training. In it, Elder Holland says:

"With all that’s happening around us, internationally and otherwise, I think there’s a lot of fear...There has never been a time in the history of the world when there weren’t problems, when there weren’t things to be fearful about. That’s why we have the gospel. We can’t live in fear — not in this Church...We just need to live the gospel and summon our faith and get answers to our prayers and go forward."

And Elder Oaks responds with:

"If I can paraphrase a scripture, “Perfect love [of the Lord] casteth out fear” (1 John 4:18; see also Moroni 8:16)." (Worldwide Leadership Training Meeting: Building Up a Righteous Posterity, February 9, 2008
)

I really feel that if we are living the Gospel the way we should, and having faith and trusting in the Lord, then no matter what happens, we will be alright. We don't have to fear, because we know who is in charge and in whom we trust. How blessed we are to have that knowledge.
