I'm pretty sure it all comes down to consistency. That's hard for me to accept. I'm a little lazy sometimes. I like to do something and then be done, and not have to do it again. Unfortunately, progressions seems to be a little halted when you look at life that way. Another quote from Sheri Dew's book, God Wants a Powerful People, sums it up pretty nicely:
"C.S. Lewis said that, 'the trouble is that relying on God has to begin all over again every day as if nothing had yet been done (The Quotable Lewis, 156)'. This means making worship a central part of life. "
In that quote she's talking about consistency in church worship, but I think it applies to every facet of life. It takes mastery over self to be able to consistently keep a clean house, to consistently discipline your children, to consistently exercise, to consistently follow through on commitments, to consistently have an attitude of patience, to consistently study scriptures, say prayers, and go to the temple. Consistency is a lot of work! I'm pretty sure that mastering consistency will be a life-long lesson for me. Hopefully it's one I'll learn before I'm dead.
