My children have a new thing to be thankful for this Thanksgiving: butter.
It is a general rule in our house that we don't add butter to things: no butter on bread, no butter in vegetables, no butter on rolls or other things that traditionally should be buttered (like grilled cheese or quesadillas). It's not that we're anti-butter, it's just that I could really care less, and Aaron can't stand butter on things. I guess you could also say that butter isn't all that healthy either.
So last night we had toast with our dinner. I decided to go out on a limb and (gasp!) butter my kids' toast. At first Parks was a little wary of it, but once he tried it, he was hooked! He asked for seconds and thirds. Maddie was licking the butter off her toast as if it contained something life-sustaining. It was really rather humorous.
I'm afraid our household may just have to start buying butter a little more frequently now. I think of butter as kind of like sugar. My kids didn't know what they were missing until they tried it, and now I'm sure we'll be buttering toast and rolls and grilled cheese sandwiches for years to come. Or maybe I'll just tell them that butter was a one-time deal. Kind of like all those Black Friday sales coming up (yay!). Just because I'm mean like that.
And since it's Thanksgiving, Parks would like me to write what he is thankful for (yes, my children are actually awake at 6:24 in the morning). Here we go: pretzels, pigs, pizza, pandas, popcorn. Yes, he does happen to be looking at a paper full of "P" things.
I also asked Maddie what she's thankful for and she said, "I'm not!" So there ya go.
