Today was a rough day. Kids screaming, tired mom, no one was happy. So I said to Parks, "Ya know, sometimes it's hard being a mom." He replied, "Yeah, sometimes it's hard being a Parks too." I had to smile at that.
But the day ended on a good note. We went to McD's and the kids had fun playing. They even ate most of their food which is a rarity. We went home and as we're getting ready for bed, I suggested that Maddie try and go in the potty. So she put her little seat on, climbed up all by herself and went! Woo-hoo! I'm so proud of her, and she was proud of herself too.
We haven't really been trying to potty train at.all. It took such a long time with Parks, I decided this time I'd let Maddie set the pace. So maybe she's ready. I know it won't be easy, but I think she'll try again because she was so happy to see what she could do. I told her, "You're such a big girl!" Parks responded, "Yeah, we'll have to get my measure tape and see how big you are now." Then I had her flush the potty. As it's going down Parks says, "I don't think the pipes know if it's Maddie's pee or mine." Um, nope, I don't think the potty is any respecter of persons. Good thing.
So today I learned that even if I'm having a crappy day, a little potty-training success can change my whole outlook. I also learned that our bathroom isn't nearly big enough for one potty-training toddler and the entire family peanut gallery. Also that Parks is kinda funny for a 4-year-old.

Hmm. I have found the greatest joys in life lie in the little, almost insignificant, pleasures. And families are full of those. Enjoy every good minute and discard the rest.
